Greenhouses
David J. Goodyear grew up in Carmanville, a small community in Notre Dame Bay. He holds a PhD in condensed matter physics and has been involved in peer reviewed research. He taught at the university level, and now works as a medical physicist at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Center in St. John's. David has designed and built one of Newfoundland's first earth sheltered greenhouses which he uses to grow food year-round in Flatrock, Newfoundland.Mike Graham holds a PhD in Agricultural Meteorology, an MSc in Botany, and is a Certified Engineering Technologist in Instrumentation. He has 25 years research experience, much of it in greenhouse climate control and instrumentation and recently retired as Director of Special Projects for College of the North Atlantic. For the last 30 years Mike has operated a 256 square foot unheated greenhouse in which he has raised a variety of crops, from grapes to zucchini, in raised beds. He has designed an inexpensive digital monitoring and control system for greenhouses which he is happy to share.
