FROM THE GROUND UP

In collaboration with CBC staff, we helped launch a series of television and radio profiles on wonderful local food producers across our province.

In 2021-2022 CBC interviewed the Guerilla Garlic Gardeners, and also profiled our project building raised bed gardens for single parent families in and around St. John’s, Kasey Budgell the fourteen-year old leading a major community food project in King’s Point, Jonas Roberts about his Foggy Food Forest in St. Philips, food podcaster Ivan Emke, the Food Hub digital food distribution system being piloted in Corner Brook, Kingfisher Farm in Gambo, David Goodyear’s homestead and four season greenhouse in Flatrock, the community composting project led by Viviana Ramirez Luna in the Georgetown neighbourhood of St. John’s and toured a waterfront garden and orchard in Pouch Cove, among others.

We are delighted with this collaborative project showing all of us that it is possible to produce our own food.   We will continue to suggest to CBC sites and groups working on food production and food security from the ground up, so if you are part of such an effort or can suggest someone who is, please let us know.
