On March 19th (the Spring Equinox) last year, Food Producers Forum and Memorial University Botanical Garden hosted Seedy Saturday 2022, a seed and plant swap at the Botanical Garden on Mt. Scio Road in St. John’s, NL. We used to have these events each spring, but had been missing out on the annual exchange of plants and seeds for the past few years.

The event included free seeds and plants, family seed starting, displays by local organizations and the following workshops:

10 AM – Start Your Seeds – with Sarah Crocker (Seed to Spoon/St. John’s Seed Library)

11 AM – Ask the Gardeners – with David Jason Goodyear (The Homestead at Flatrock), Pat Puddester (Pat’s Plants, Witless Bay) & Tim Walsh (MUN Botanical Garden)

1 PM – Why Seeds Matter (Heritage, History and your Garden) – with Dan Rubin (Perfectly Perennial Herbs & Seeds)

2 PM – Building Healthy Soil (Compost, Mulch, Marine Resources) – with Diane Hollett (NL Marine Organics, Gerald Walsh (Windy Heights Farm) and Christine Gillard (Environmental Educator, MUN Botanical Garden)

We will be planning an even more exciting event for the spring of 2023. If you would like to help, email us at foodproducersforum@gmail.com.
