Jennifer Collins lives in downtown St. John's. She became concerned about food security after the winter shutdown of early 2020 due to challenging weather. She had already laid the foundation for a waste free, plant-based cafe in 2018, but after the closure of that business and the following pandemic, food production really took centre stage. Realizing that there are basic skills needed for growing food that a lot of people are unaware of led her to connect with Food First NL and become part of their Food Animators team. Jennifer also found like minded individuals and founded the Local Wellness Collective, a non-profit group working to help restore the three pillars of health: healthy food and food security, mental health and physical activity. Jennifer is a budding astrologer and mother of an amazing little Virgo man who is just as stoked about growing food as she is! She hopes to connect food banks with local community food production to expand access to healthy, local food.
