Scott NearyScott Neary is a science and engineering enthusiast who left formal education behind to study hydroponics, vertical farming, and aquaponics. He spent more than a decade in the food service industry, in a range of jobs from kitchen work, to food service and management. While doing this he saw a lot of poor quality, expensive food. He knows that because of supply issues, much of our food is not healthy. After five years of self-directed study and experimentation, Scott was able to get his first indoor farm off the ground here in Mt. Pearl, producing a range of leafy greens, herbs and microgreens. Green Farm NL is providing access to hard-to-find, high quality leafy greens. Scott hopes to diversify his production as time goes on, and is experimenting with new hydroponic designs to optimize yields. Almost any plant can be grown anywhere in the world in this way, without worrying about seasonal change or adverse weather. He would like to help others create hydroponic farms all over Newfoundland and Labrador to increase our access to locally grown fresh, healthy food.
