Adrian UncAdrian Unc, agronomist and soil scientist, is a professor at the Memorial University and affiliated with the McGill University. His early research (University of Guelph) was critical to the Inquiry into the contamination of municipal drinking water in Walkerton ON. At the New Mexico State University, he established a soil-plant relationship program for arid land soils and crops, work still going on in the Southwest US and Middle East. This research has shown that soil and plant microbiomes are essential for plant resilience climate stresses. He established the first Canadian graduate program focused on northern (Boreal Ecosystems and Agricultural Sciences, BEAS). Currently he works on issues relevant to the fertility of northern soils, and the development of an integrated circumboreal research capacity to address the impact of climate change on northern agriculture and food security. Another New Mexico line of research, continuing today, is on decision support tools that facilitate the economical production of microalgae biomass under various conditions and for various bio-products.
